To open the eyes of the blind
Posted on January 9, 2011 by paulcoholic

Isaiah 42:6-7 – “I, the LORD, have called you for the victory of justice, I have grasped you by the hand; I formed you, and set you as a covenant of the people, a light for the nations, to open the eyes of the blind, to bring out prisoners from confinement, and from the dungeon, those who live in darkness.”

(Via USCCB.)

This excerpt from the First Reading from today’s Mass on the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord is from the perspective of God reaching out to us to lead us to Him. It can also serve as a rallying dry for us Christians responding to His call.

God incarnated Himself as Jesus for several reasons. Aside from dying for our sins so as to redeem us from our Original Sin, He sent Jesus to us to liberate us as the Prophet speaks.

We, as followers of Christ can take up this call of liberation. We can take Christ’s message of liberation from the enslavement to the World and bring it to others. By using modern methods of communication we can wrap His ancient message in something new and make it relevant to the people around us. All the while remaining faithful to His teachings.

This is one of the reasons Catholic Preachy was started, to preach “da Word to da Herd” and bring others to the Way, the Truth, and the Life that is Jesus and His Church.

  1. This post presents both a challenge and an opportunity. The opportunity is there for everyone: who is willing to take up the challenge?

It’s not rocket science. A bible verse, a personal testimony, a quote from someone else, the possibilities are endless. A simple post on a profile may radically change someone’s life!
